Certification

Several interviews are conducted to confirm a dayhome’s suitability. Once the following requirements are met, approval for services is granted:

  • Providers and all member of their immediate or household family, over the age of 18, are subject to a security clearance by Edmonton Police Services. Thereafter, these clearances are rechecked every three years.
  • Intervention record check.
  • Reference checking.
  • Evaluation of dayhome for adequate heat, ventilation, space and age appropriate toys in good repair. The home and furnishings for the childcare areas must also be in good repair.
  • Require a medial from your family physician.
  • Inspections for compliance with health regulations, infection controls, sanitation, and fire safety. Smoke detectors must be maintained on each floor of the dayhomes. Dangerous items must be locked up or out of children’s reach.
  • Certification in First Aid for infant care, pre-school child care and older childcare (up to 12 years of age). A first aid kit must be properly maintained.
